Precor 2000 Plus Review

The Precor 2000 Plus Spray is an insecticide used to control insect pests. These include ants, cockroaches, ticks, fleas, and lice. While pyrethene helps exterminate the target pests, the active ingredient methoprene, an insect growth regulator (IGR), helps prevent reinfestation, and this is through the inhibition of adult eggs and larvae.

Also, the Precor IGR targets all types of pests that cause damage to animals, such as birds, mites, fleas, ticks, ants, flies, phlebotomes, etc. It is an insecticide that you can apply in human-inhabited spaces.

Also, you can apply it in rooms or facilities where animals such as sheds, pens, cages, carriers, and others are. Precor 2000 is a ready-to-use water-based insecticide that carries micro-encapsulated polymer insecticides, acaricides, and insect growth regulators in suspension.

The Precor Plus Fogger is considered to be a biochemical pesticide. This is because indirect toxicity controls the “plague” (the invertebrate pest or considered an unwanted host). It prevents the larva from reaching maturity or reproduction.

Permethrin and phenothrin, active ingredients of Precor 2000 Plus Flea insecticide, belong to the Pyrethroid group. They are molecules of low toxicity on mammals, with very good insecticidal capacity and flipping effect. To this is added its great eviction action, important in areas where the location of insects is complex.

It is a water-based product with a low concentration of insecticides. Hence, you can apply it to sensitive sites. Once the foam dissipates, the solid residue of the active ingredient remains on the treated surface, thus ensuring a prolonged residual effect.

The Zoecon Precor product is also developed to treat hollow sites pipes, where application with liquid insecticides is difficult.

Characteristics of Precor 2000 Plus Spray Insecticide

The insecticide is a broad-spectrum insecticide product formulated with the most powerful active ingredients.

Precor 2000 Plus is presented as a clear and almost odorless liquid, with a characteristic solvent odor. It acts on the sodium channels of the nervous system of a wide range of insects (flies, ticks, fleas, lice, mosquitoes, cockroaches, etc.) and arachnids. It has a rapid flipping effect.

Benefits of using this product over other insecticides

  1. Concentrated product.
  2. Effective against ticks, fleas, lice, flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, etc.
  3. Reinforced broad-spectrum insecticide.
  4. It reaches inaccessible areas and is easy to apply due to its full discharge valve.
  5. It kills adult fleas, hatching flea eggs, and larvae
  6. It prevents reinfestation

How the spray Precor works

Precor IGR targets fleas, especially adults, in the environment of use. Unfortunately, however, just 1 to 5% of fleas are adults. And these adults live on animal hosts. Once these pests find animal hosts, they remain there. Just a little of these pests are seen coming out from their cocoons. Meanwhile, the spray isn’t advisable to be applied directly to animals.

Also, many immature or young fleas aren’t touched by this product as they only live at the bases of carpets and other protective covers. Generally, the rug provides a perfect cover for vacuum removal and insecticide penetration.

However, the young fleas will grow to become adults with time. Hence, this may give the impression that the spray insecticide failed to work after seeing the emergence of these new pests.

However, these new pests are only the last adult generations. Because the Precor IGR penetrates deep, the insecticide works for several months in controlling new infestations. As long as the carpets and protective covers of the pests are IGR-treated, any egg that falls further into the carpets will not survive.

Application and uses

Depending on the pest to be controlled, you can apply it indoors and outdoors. As it is a formula with a low concentration of an active ingredient, you can use it in places where the presence of people or animals is inevitable.

These can be houses, schools, hospitals, restaurants, industries in general, sports facilities, farms, drums, warehouses, green areas, closed neighborhoods, plazas, golf courses, etc.

Methoprene is a synthetic juvenile hormone with a broad spectrum. That is to say; it is active in many species. It has been used by biologists to – in specific experiments – replace the real hormone that we do not know how to produce. For example, researchers were able to study the effects that a disturbance of the juvenile hormone could induce in social species like the honey bee or the social wasp Polybia occidentalis.

The results show that Methoprene based insecticides are deadly when applied topically from 25 µg in the social wasp Polybia occidentalis. In both cases, significant behavioral effects were noted. There was a disturbance of roles in the colony, a role which in these species changes with the individual’s age.

The uses can vary according to the countries and the evolution of the regulations. But here is a list (not exhaustive) of the uses that the chemical industry has found and got approved for the ingredient in Precor:

  1. Control of animals deemed undesirable on a large scale in outdoor inhabited areas; rivers or bodies of water various; agricultural areas; wasteland; woodlands; pastures; rangelands; sewers; ditches, etc. These undesirable animals could be flies, mosquitoes and other insects, arthropods, cat or dog fleas, human lice, etc.;
  2. Control of unwanted insects (especially flies) in the meat, milk, or mushroom processing industry;
  3. Controls of insects becoming pests in food stocks of peanuts, rice, cereals, flour, for example, against the mealworm Tribolium castaneum or other species;
  4. Integration into certain veterinary or human drugs (e.g., alto ou against lice)
  5. Treatment of indoor plants;
  6. Reformulation products;
  7. Treatment of stored tobacco or warehouses;
  8. Fight against certain parasites of various livestock or companion animals (in particular for flea control);
  9. Mosquitoes control certain water tanks or drinking water storage tanks so that mosquitoes do not reproduce there. However, the disadvantage of contributing to the accumulation of dead larvae will decompose in the tank. This has mainly concerned, for several decades, regions where mosquito-borne diseases are rife (dengue fever, malaria, or West Nile fever especially);
  10. Mosquito Control of the environment: It may be used in the prevention against the spread of the West Nile virus. By being used in the vector control against biting mosquitoes, Methoprene can also affect useful and harmless species like the Chironomidae. Their larva of the Chironomidae, bloodworms, is an important food source for fish, and their adult is also important for birds, bats, or fish (including young salmon).

How to use Precor 2000 Plus Premise

How to use Precor

When you buy Precor insecticides, know that they are never completely harmless. Getting rid of unwanted insects, especially those that bite, like mosquitoes, is not always that easy.

The spray insecticide distributes a product that knocks out or kills insects, unlike others which play a bait role by attracting its target pests. A priori, the latter would have a lesser impact on air quality, unlike the spray insecticides.

Indeed, the products diffused by aerosols are not necessarily devoid of effects in humans. We already mentioned that the active ingredients used are pyrethrins and pyrethroids. However, you should know that pyrethrins can cause allergic reactions in sensitive subjects and cause dermatitis, rhinitis, or asthma. It has a level of toxicity, admittedly low but which can cause irritation of the mucous membranes and induce allergic sensitization.

It is therefore essential to observe certain precautions. Used correctly, the insecticide can protect your plants, pets, your company, or your home.

However, if the product label instructions are not followed correctly, the least of the problems is that it causes damage to the plants. It can even put human health at risk and contribute to soil, air, and water contamination.

This is why the spray must be responsible and follow some simple recommendations.

To obtain Precor IGR insecticide results, it is essential to inspect the site. Ensure the pest is present and know where it nests. It is advisable to shake the container energetically to homogenize the mixture of formulated propellants like an aerosol.

You can apply Precor IGR concentrate directly to cracks, crevices, in hollow walls, in drain pipes, around grilles or septic chamber covers, etc. To achieve a safe and practical application, the operator must wear appropriate dermal protection clothing, gloves, respiratory protection mask, and goggles.

Precaution and storage

According to the EPA (2012), there is no risk for people professionally exposed to permethrin biopesticide. But by its nature, this product can have significant effects on the environment.

For this reason, the labeling recommends storage in a cool place, and it has to be away from any food and other pesticides.

Ensure you store the insecticide out of the reach of children. Also, please do not use them in the presence of children, and avoid using them in the presence of pregnant women or people with asthma or allergies. You can use the aerosol by spraying the place in their absence and avoiding spraying the areas they are likely to occupy.

Users must avoid direct contact with the insecticide with the skin and mucous membranes. Also, do not spray the insecticide near food, kitchen utensils, dog or cat bowl, aquarium, etc. Do not exceed the recommended amounts. In general, if it is indicated that a single spray is sufficient, avoid doing 2, 3, or even more time.

In addition, do not spray the insecticide near an open flame or heat source. In case of contact with the skin, rinse thoroughly with clean water. If swallowed, contact a poison control center immediately.

At the doses indicated by the manufacturer, it does not present a risk for pets (dogs and cats). But incidents of toxicity have been reported to the EPA for cats. However, under no circumstances should the insecticide be applied to animals. Precor IGR penetrates animals’ skin (including target pests and pets). Hence, it could turn out toxic to them.

Toxic effects of Methoprene

Toxicity in mammals, including humans

Acute toxicity: Methoprene has low acute toxicity regardless of the route of exposure. It is slightly irritating to the eyes, but it is not an irritant or skin sensitizer. However, some formulations have caused sensitization in guinea pigs, believed to be caused by an ingredient present in the formulation.

Long-term effects?: Methoprene is not carcinogenic. No reproductive or developmental toxicity is anticipated in humans following exposure to methoprene residues, whether during pregnancy or childhood. Methoprene is minimally toxic in long-term studies. It is neither neurotoxic nor genotoxic, and it does not disturb endocrine function.

Toxicity to non-target species

Fish or daphnia: Methoprene is toxic in freshwater fish (LC50 – 96 h of 760 µg / L in rainbow trout) and freshwater aquatic invertebrates (EC50 – 48 h of 360 µg/L for Daphnia Magna). It is moderately toxic in green algae (EC50 – 72 h of 1330 µg/L for Scenedesmus suspicious).

Birds: Methoprene is slightly toxic in birds exposed orally (LD50 greater than 2000 mg/kg BW in mallard duck).

Bees: This insecticide is slightly toxic in bees.

Environmental fate and behavior

Persistence: Methoprene is not sensitive to hydrolysis at pH levels found in the environment. However, it is easily transformed by photolysis in water (half-life of 4 to 5 days). Methoprene is rapidly metabolized by microorganisms in the soil, both under aerobic and anaerobic conditions (half-life of 12 days). The main degradation product of Methoprene is methoxycitronellic acid.

Leaching potential: The adsorption constant on organic carbon (Koc) of Methoprene is 2535 ml/g. Therefore, it is not very mobile in soils, and its leaching potential is low. The Henry’s Law constant indicates that Methoprene is slightly volatile from moist soil and water (H = 8.7 x 10-6 atm.m3 / mol).
